| Welcome to Dr. Malhotra's Homepage! |
This site is for my students and the parents. I have been teaching Science at TOHS since 2000. Currently, I'm teaching 3 courses at TOHS: Anatomy/Physiology CP, Physiology Honors and Scientific Research. I got my Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology/Physiology from University of British Columbia, Canada and published my work in top scientific journals. Then I worked as a graduate research assistant and completed my post doc research at University of British Columbia. I completed my second post doc at UCSB and published my research in another American journal. I obtained a single subject teaching credential from CSUN. I have a strong background in science and would love to explain difficult concepts at lunch time/prep period. Parents and students can communicate with me via email regarding any questions or concerns about the courses/students. I want my students to know that they are wonderful and I really enjoy teaching them! Keep it up! |
| About my Courses! |
In my Anatomy CP and Physiology Honors courses, students learn about the human body and how it works. These are challenging and high level courses which involve good work ethics and critical thinking skills. Both courses have hands-on labs/activities and lab reports, virtual and real dissections, simulated/virtual labs, laptop activities, group projects/activities, professional guest speakers, field trips and much more...!
The new and inquiry based course Scientific Research, will be taught over 2 semesters. The purpose of this course is to promote the scientific discovery process and connect our students to real science and scientists in the community. This course is inter-disciplinary in nature, is a UC approved lab science and the first one of its kind in the State. In the first semester, students learn all the lab techniques and skills used in a typical research lab. This will involve microbiology, biochemistry, HPLC, tissue culture, biotechnology, chemistry, biophysics, genomics etc. In the second semester, they would choose a research project of their choice and complete it under my supervision. These students will represent TOHS at the County and State Science Fair competitions. During the second semester students will also get an opportunity to collaborate with scientists from local colleges, universities and industry. Students are expected to develop good work ethics and use critical thinking skills throughout this course
Students can follow the links on this page to check out some other Anatomy, Physiology and Scientific Research sites used in my courses! Most lecture notes are posted here in a word format; powerpoints and other pdfs are stored in the "Dropbox" online. If you don't know how to access "Dropbox" please email me ASAP.
If you have any questions about the courses I teach, please email me!
In addition to the above courses, I am an advisor for the Science Club/School's Science Fair (County and State), American Red Cross Club, Health Science Major program (senior year), Global Diversity Club and DESI club at TOHS. I recommend that you join one of these clubs/programs and be a part of the Lancer family! It is always good to get involved in club activities on campus if you are interested in a leadership role at TOHS. If you have any other questions, please email me or come by E8 at lunch time.
